World Travel 101 Budget Travel Workshops are geared toward the first-time traveler planning a trip abroad! They are resource workshops and admission is $5 for HI-members and $10 for non-members. All workshops begin at 11 a.m., unless noted otherwise.

Europe By Rail

What’s it all about?

Europe — If you’re planning on going to Europe don’t miss this workshop! This workshop provides basic information for a safe and successful European trip. Veteran travelers offer tips on everything from budgeting, packing, finding accommodations, rail transportation, language barriers, getting the most out of your trip and more.

Europe by Rail —Eurail, Eurail Select, Britrail, Eurostar, ferries, the Chunnel, first class, second class, couchettes, sleepers—What’s the difference? This workshop will provide an in-depth view of all these topics and more.

South East Asia — A vast region of the world including Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Come learn and explore with travel tips, health and safety precautions and other information to help you with trip planning.

Women Traveling Alone — Are you female and planning a trip overseas alone but are concerned about safety? Don’t be. Take this workshop and learn special tips on traveling alone, safety and enjoyably. Tips on budgeting, accommodations, safety, language and customs will be covered.

Mature Traveler — Turning 60 is no reason to stop following your wanderlust. This workshop will address some of the special opportunities available for mature travelers, as well as the special needs of the older traveler.

Minnesota

The Minnesota Council of HI-USA regularly presents World Travel 101 - a program designed as a "how-to" for those new to international travel - at local outdoor stores such as R.E.I. and bookstores such as Barnes & Noble.

HI-MN also holds a monthly Travelers Circle - a discussion oriented travelogue - every third Thursday at the HI-MN headquarters in St. Paul.

Get a New Yorkers view of Manhattan on a special full-day walking tour sponsored by HI-New York, see the inside of The Pentagon in Washington DC with a U.S. military guide, or feel like a native in Seattle as you watch the sunset on the ferry to Bainbridge Island.
